Wawayanda

A state park in…New Jersey! Also nearby, the Nissitissit River,

in Massachusetts, and the Weekeepeewee (Connecticut). Paula

Ururburu teaches on Long Island. For a longer trip, visit

Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

Ankaratra

A volcanic massif in Madasgascar. Madagascar itself has been

“Alabama-fied,” maybe because it is so familiar. But Ankaratra

retains its foreign sounding all-AAH pronunciation.

Aca Mama

Manco Capac, the first Inka, founded the empire at Aca Mama,

now Cuzco, previously inhabited by the Ayarmaca.
